Even as believers who have been saved and regenerated, we will still struggle with sin and the effects it has on our lives. In this episode, Bethany is joined by Bo Cogbill, who is the new pastor of the church she grew up in in Oregon. Bo talks about the Christian’s new relationship to sin, how we can be secure in God’s love for us, and the importance of regular confession and repentance.
About our guest this week:
Bo is married to Rachel and has three children, Bailey Grace, Sydney Noel, and Keller Justice. Bo began serving at Christ Covenant Church, Mesquite, TX in 2010 and graduated from Westminster/Redeemer Seminary with his M.Div. in 2012. The things he enjoys most are hanging out with Rachel and the kids, Dallas sports teams, and cheering on TCU – GO FROGS! Ben now serves as the head pastor at Reformation Covenant Church.
Encouragement from this episode:
Bo shared about—
- How we ought to view our sin as believers
- Understanding guilt and dealing with it in a godly way
- Having assurance of God’s love even when we’ve sinned
- The importance of personal and corporate confession
- Being patient when sanctification feels slow
Notable quote:
“I think one of the beautiful things about the omniscience of God and then also the fact that Christ paid for our future sins is His willingness to receive us. It should make us secure, it should help us to feel an appropriate amount of guilt in that we’ve done something that hurts our Father, but to not ever doubt that He wants us to come quickly home…”
