The Lord delights in caring for the seemingly small needs of His children. We can get caught up in praying for our big needs, the pressing things – a job, a car, healing from disease. Creation groans under the curse, and there are many things we need that are good to go to Christ and ask for.
When was the last time you prayed for the Lord to care for the small needs? Rubber boots for fast growing feet, a warm sweater for cool fall days, a favorite cereal to go on sale.
We can buy into culture’s belief, that those things are “good karma” or happen by “chance,” and we can forget that it is the Lord who directs these tiny details for His glory and our good.
As adopted sons of God through Christ, we can approach Him with confidence. We can approach without shame, because no matter is too small for the one who has shaped a million daisies and countless pine needles.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb. 4:16, ESV)
As God’s beloved children, we can thank Him for these generous gifts. He cares! He provides these things without us even thinking to ask. When these gifts show up, just as a child is delighted with an unexpected gift, let us turn with delighted faces to the One who made us, and be grateful.
God cares tenderly and minutely. Cast your cares on Him, because He cares for you.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; “you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matt. 10: 29-31 ESV, emphasis added)
